LAFI Burkina London Launch

LAFI Burkina hosted it’s first event in mid-May in London – held at Canal 125 in Kings Cross, we had a great turnout which included supporters and friends of LB trustees whom wanted to hear more about the work we are doing and how they can help.

Melissa Miller, Vice Chair gave a heartfelt speech. She said “It is impossible not to be touched by the stories of the people that we met [in Burkina Faso]…it is our hope that through LAFI Burkina we can continue to support our partners to implement positive change…Handicap Solidaire Burkina (HSB) has developed many services that provided direct support to people with disabilities and their families whilst simultaneously carrying out advocacy campaigns on disability rights at both a government and local community level. When HSB opened a drop in centre the courtyard was full of people from all over city. Parents who knew there was something different about their child but didn’t know where to turn, young people with no jobs and no shelter. The centre has helped hundreds of people access medical care, education, training opportunities and necessary equipment. We hope that you will find some way to accompany us on this journey and we would appreciate whatever support you are able to offer whether it be helping out at an event, promoting our work, sharing your skills, providing advice or taking part in a fundraising event.

LAFI Burkina will be organising more events in the coming year to raise funds so we can help strengthen the capacities of our partners in Burkina Faso in order to promote and protect the rights of people with disabilities. If you would like to hear more or support us along the way please contact us! Below are a selection of photos from the evening.
